Shenandoah University Women's Soccer Advances to ODAC Semifinals

Shenandoah University women’s soccer earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Roanoke College, advancing to the ODAC semifinals for the first time since 2022.

 

Powered by early goals from McKenna Newcome and Kaitlyn Wahl, the Hornets took a swift 2-0 lead in their first home playoff since 2016.

 

Despite a second-half goal from Roanoke, goalkeeper Morgan Musselman delivered three key saves, maintaining Shenandoah’s edge.

 

Now 11-6-3, the Hornets will face Virginia Wesleyan University in another high-stakes semifinal matchup.

 

Elsewhere, women’s cross country took third at ODACs, led by Maddy Chorney.

 

The field hockey team rallied to beat Virginia Wesleyan, clinching the No. 2 seed for the ODAC Tournament.

 

Women’s volleyball split a tri-match, highlighted by strong efforts from Hannah Hylton and Ashlynn Spence, while three wrestlers placed at the Tonee Ellis Invitational.

 

Women’s tennis earned eight wins at the Randolph WildCat Invitational as Shenandoah’s fall teams continue to shine.

Daniel Morgan Middle School Earns 'Best Middle School' Recognition in Virginia

Daniel Morgan Middle School in Winchester has earned a spot among Virginia’s Best Middle Schools, ranking 130th out of 397 statewide.

 

This recognition highlights strong math and reading proficiency, placing the school in the top third across Virginia.

 

Superintendent Jason Van Heukelum and Principal Beth O'Donnell expressed pride in both staff and students for achieving this honor.

 

The school’s success showcases dedication and collaboration, reinforcing its positive reputation within Winchester Public Schools.

 

Winchester itself is experiencing rapid growth, now the third-fastest-growing city in Virginia, with a population nearing 30,000 as of July 2024.

 

Major development projects like the Cedar Valley NDD and a new Publix Super Market reflect the city’s transformation and commitment to community enhancement.

 

The school’s achievement aligns with Winchester’s broader goals of excellence, growth, and community pride.
