Daniel Morgan Middle School Earns 'Best Middle School' Recognition in Virginia

Daniel Morgan Middle School in Winchester has been recognized as one of Virginia's 'Best Middle Schools' by a prominent national publication.

The school secured the 130th position out of 397 middle schools statewide, placing it in the top third. This ranking evaluates factors such as math and reading proficiency and performance.

Winchester Public Schools Superintendent Jason Van Heukelum shared the news with Principal Beth O’Donnell, expressing immense pride in the school's staff and students for achieving this distinguished honor.

Van Heukelum highlighted that this recognition underscores how Daniel Morgan Middle School has exceeded expectations and rewritten its narrative. Through dedication, collaboration, and a steadfast belief in their students, the school has become a source of great pride for Winchester Public Schools.

This accolade comes at a time when Winchester is experiencing significant growth and development. The city has the third-highest growth rate among Virginia cities, with an estimated population of 29,294 as of July 1, 2024, reflecting a 1.05% average annual growth rate.

In addition to educational achievements, Winchester is undergoing substantial community development. The Cedar Valley Neighborhood Design District (NDD) is transforming the Ward Plaza area into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. This initiative includes the construction of a 50,325-square-foot Publix Super Market, set to open by March 2027, alongside 327 residential units and 22,600 square feet of commercial and retail space.
